Julie A. Daly - Amazon review
"This is a lovely book to dip into as it is full of charming - and sometimes chilling - stories, songs and snippets from the area. Many were initially 'rescued' in the late thirties, when children in the National Schools were asked to collect their local folklore so it could be preserved. The author has rescued them again, turned them into a coherent collection and added his own evocative black and white photos of key places in the stories. Folklore is something you normally associate with the distant past, but there is an intimate quality to the voices in the stories. When you read the 'Fairies Who Stole John's Cow', John sounds like someone you could see sitting in the corner of a pub in Goleen. It would make a great gift for an expat from the area and is EXACTLY the kind of book you'd want to be able to look at if you were staying in a cottage or AirBnB in the area."
